The True Mark of a Disciple
At Manna Church, our second core value is that we love each other.
This is not just a slogan. It’s a command that comes directly from the words of Jesus. Right after Jesus shared the greatest commandment, which is to love God, he immediately gave us a second: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
But he took this even deeper with his disciples in John 13. He said:
A new command I give to you. Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this all people will know you are my disciples if you love one another.
More Than Knowledge, It's Love
Jesus is saying that this is the true mark of one of his followers. Not how much we know, but how well we love.
And let’s be real, that’s not always easy. Loving people can be messy. Relationships can be hard. And community isn’t always comfortable.
But Jesus didn't just tell us to love. He showed us how. He laid down his life. He served. He forgave. He gave grace even when it wasn't deserved.
Living Out Authentic Community
At Manna Church, loving each other means that we live in real, authentic community. It means:
- We show up for one another.
- We carry each other's burdens.
- We speak the truth even when it’s hard.
- We forgive quickly.
- We encourage consistently.
- We serve sacrificially.
That’s why we push so hard for small groups. That’s why we’re building a surf team. That’s why we’re going to refuse to do life alone.
The Church is People
The church isn't a building—it's people. And we need each other to become who God has called us to be.
When we love each other the way that Jesus loves us, the world takes notice. That’s why Jesus said, “By this all people will know you are my disciples.”
At Manna Church, we love each other because when we love each other well, we look like Jesus and the world takes notice.
